Come and enjoy an unforgettable vacation, right on the shores of the Bras d'Or Lake, in the center of Cape Breton Island, half way between the Cape Breton Highlands, the Cabot Trail, the Newfoundland Ferry and the Canso Causeway.
The picturesque Town of Baddeck is just a 30 minutes’ drive away, to Orangedale it is 15 minutes and to the Highland Village Museum in Iona it is around 10 minutes.

The Cottage

An outstanding panoramic view over the crystal-clear water of the Bras d’Or Lakes toward the mountains on the opposite shore, the location at a sheltered cove at the South Side of the Bay of Whycocomagh and the rich wildlife in the water and on-shore of this wooded property, were the main reasons to place the cottage right here.
The cathedral ceiling and the loft give you a generous feeling of height and space inside the cottage.
Lots of pine wood not only provides a lovely smell, it gives your eyes a pleasant contrast to the white coloured areas.

Cape Breton Cottage fly-fishing

The overall dimensions of the cottage are around 26 Ft by 22 Ft (8.00 m x 6.80 m) on the ground level and 10 Ft by 12 Ft (3.10 m x 3.60 m) for the loft.

This cottage has its own private driveway, its own lawn and its own water frontage. This is almost a guarantee for lots of privacy.

The cottage is very well insulated and therefore nice and cool during the hot summer weeks and cozy and warm during the winter. Even though black flies and mosquitoes are not an issue because of the salty breeze from the Bras d’Or Lakes – it is the largest saltwater lake on earth - all windows are screened.

The central location makes this place an ideal starting point for your tours all around Cape Breton Island, especially to:
• The Cape Breton Highlands and National Park
• The National Historic Site Fortress Louisbourg
• Several world famous trails like the Cabot Trail, the Skyline Trail and many more
• The picturesque towns of Baddeck or to Cheticamp
• Very unique waterfalls to explore like the Egypt Falls, Uisage Ban Falls, North River Falls and more
• Whale watching and moose hiking, fly fishing at the Margaree River, at the Middle River and of course right in front of the cottage at the Bras d'Or Lake

The Bras d'Or Lake

The Bras d’Or Lake is the largest saltwater lake on the planet.
With its hundreds of larger or smaller islands, coves and bays, it is over 1,098 square km (424 square miles) in area, 71 km (44 miles) long and up to 32 km (20 miles) wide.
It was designated the Bras d'Or Lake Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2011.

Today, there are dozens of open fish pens covering the whole Bay of Whycocomagh. These net pens produce several 100-thousands of trout every year. Bon Appétit!

You don’t have to be an extreme athlete or an adventurer - not even a fisherman - in order to enjoy your vacation with us.
Seniors, families with children, couples or singles - all are welcome to rejuvenate here in this clean and healthy environment.
This place is especially suitable for elderly and those of us, who want much privacy and a very peaceful location right on the water without being in the nowhere.
And just in case: we live on the opposite corner of the premises. Therefore, we are in reach for you if you should decide you need us.

The distance from the cottage to the beach over your own lawn is around 30 steps.
The beach is very gently sloped. The with of the beach depends on the tide. Yes, the Bras d’Or Lake is tidal water, but you will see just a few feet, unless we have an extreme weather situation. Than the beach might become a bite smaller …

This couple of Bald Eagle is visiting us almost daily and for many years, summer and winter. Ok, I am not 100% sure if they are the same individuals.
But they look majestic, don’t they?
Enjoy the Bald Eagles soar over the waters of the Bras d’Or Lake right in front of the cottage!

Breathtaking Scenery and Landscapes

There must be a reason if several travel magazines and Tourist Publications ranked Cape Breton Island as one of the top islands on the planet, and this for many years. I will spare you the stale quotation by Alexander Graham Bell about Cape Breton.

OK, we are surrounded by water, like the fishermen’s and sailor’s dream: the Bras d’Or Lakes and several rivers and brooks. So it is no surprise that sport fishing is an important part of our daily activities, maybe of our live.

The Middle River and especially the Margaree River are world class rivers for fly-fishing for Atlantic Salmon and for Trout.

The Bras d'Or Lake is famous for the Rainbow Trout fishing, year-round. Personally, I also spend a lot of time fishing for Mackerel and for Striped Bass (Sea Bass) at the Atlantic not far from here. An absolute highland for me is the fishing for Squid each year. It is not just a fun way to switch things up from traditional fishing. Squid is one of my favourite seafood, and they make great bait too.

You don’t have to be an extreme athlete or an adventurer - or even a fisherman - in order to enjoy your vacation with us. But, many guest come for the fishing to us.

If you are an absolute beginner, let us help and assist you with your first steps in fishing.

If you hire us to assist you with your first fishing steps and you should not be successful in catching your first fish under our supervision and with our help, we owe you. As a compensation we offer you to help us a full day weeding in our garden or splitting fire wood. That is a promise!
